Astral Experiences

Log the subtle pull away from the body, the liminal edge where sleep thins and the room feels slightly off-center. This space is for out-of-body sensations, sleep-edge journeys, and experiences that feel distinct from ordinary dreaming yet not fully awake.

Sleep-Edge Observations — Ongoing

This ongoing log focuses on the hypnagogic and hypnopompic phases: the shifting borderlands as you fall asleep and as you return. Record sensations, sounds, visions, distortions in the room, and any moment where you feel slightly separate from your physical body. Each entry is written immediately on waking, before moving or reaching for your phone.

How the Experiment Works

Question

What actually happens at the boundary between sleep and waking, and can these liminal states be entered and documented in a consistent way across nights?

Method

  • Sleep-edge logging: keep a notebook or recorder at arm’s reach, dedicated only to this experiment.
  • Timing notes: whenever possible, note approximate clock time for falling asleep, night awakenings, and waking, plus any external cues (lights, sounds).
  • Immediate records: write or speak your observations within seconds of waking, before changing position or engaging with devices.

Latest Experiment Notes

Recent entries from the Astral Experiences log appear here — snapshots of sleep-edge states, brief separations from the body, and the subtle ways the room changes when you are almost awake. As the experiment continues, this section will collect patterns, outliers, and moments that ask for a closer look.

Try It With Me

If the edges of sleep already feel strange to you — sliding out of your body, hearing voices in an empty room, or watching the ceiling tilt — you may be well-suited to this experiment. Share your own sleep-edge logs and, if you’d like, we can run a structured series together.
